Aiguebelette Lake: the warm-water jewel

Aiguebelette welcomes you with its jade-coloured waters. This natural Savoie lake of glacial origin stretches across 545 hectares at the foot of the Épine Mountain range. With a depth of up to 71 metres, it reveals unique green hues. This Savoie lake is also famous for its warm waters: at just 373 metres above sea level, the surface warms quickly and can reach up to 28°C in high season.

Lake Bourget: the giant of Savoie

Get ready for a change of scale! Lake Bourget is the largest natural glacial lake in France. Its surface covers 44.5 km², stretching over 18 km long and 3.5 km wide. It’s the “Mediterranean of the Alps”, bordered by towns such as Aix-les-Bains and Le Bourget-du-Lac.

There’s no shortage of things to do around this Savoie lake. On the Aix-les-Bains side, landscaped beaches welcome swimmers and sunseekers. To the west, the Dent du Chat peak towers over the landscape. Rent an electric boat, try wakeboarding or simply relax on the grassy shores.

Fishing enthusiasts will find Lake Bourget legendary, especially for perch and pike, as long as regulations are respected.

Cyclists can enjoy the full tour of the lake, offering superb mountain views. Note, according to various reviews, that cycle paths are discontinuous in certain areas, notably along the D1504 near the cliffs.

Exploring Savoie without visiting Lake Bourget would be a missed opportunity! Don’t forget to stop by Hautecombe Abbey, an architectural gem on the western shore.

Saint-André Lake: a wine-country gem

For a different experience, head to Lake Saint-André, a real treasure located in Les Marches, Porte-de-Savoie. This small Savoie lake is known for its ecological importance and is a protected natural area ideal for wildlife observation.

Swimming is forbidden, but the area is magical for other reasons: perfect for picnics under the willows, birdwatching, or simply admiring the towering Granier cliffs. Fishing is permitted in certain regulated zones.

A full loop around the lake takes about 30 minutes. Combine it with a visit to the surrounding wine cellars! The Wine Route runs through the area. Reviews highlight the bucolic charm of this Grand Site of Savoie.
